Lifeguard Certification Course
Become a certified Lifeguard. Successful participants become certified in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and Lifeguard Training. Course fee includes the Life guarding manual.
Please Note: During the first class, candidates must successfully complete the following prerequisites:

  • be at least 15 years old
  • Swim 100 yards continuously
    • Swim 50 yards of either the front crawl or breaststroke and 50 yards with a rescue tube.
  • Swim 20 yards, retrieve a 10 lb. diving brick from 7-9 ft and return to the starting point with the brick within 1 minute and 40 seconds.  The return swim must be done on the back and both hands must stay on the brick.
  • Candidates not able to complete the prerequisites will receive a refund.

In order to receive your certification you must:

  • Attend all class
  • Pass all skills tests
  • Pass all written tests with a score of 80% or more.

Lifeguard Re-certification
Lifeguard certifications need to be renewed every three years and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer must be renewed yearly.  Preregistration Required.  Please call the pool office to schedule a review.

Water Safety Instructor Certification Course
The purpose of this instructor course is to train instructor candidates to teach Swimming and Water Safety courses. To officially enter the course, you must:

  • Be at least 16 years of age.
  • Pass a pre-course skills test by completing  25 yards of the following strokes at or above a youth level 4:
    • Front Crawl
    • Back Crawl
    • Sidestroke
    • Breaststroke
    • Elementary Backstroke
    • Butterfly (15 yards)

Prospective candidates must pass pre-course skills test in order to continue in the instructor course. This test will be given on the first day of class. Please plan on getting in the water on the first day of class. Candidates not able to complete the prerequisites will receive a refund.

In order to receive your certification you must:
  • Attend all class
  • Pass all skills tests
  • Pass all written tests with a score of 80% or more.

Lifeguard Instructor Certification Course
The purpose of this instructor course is to train instructor candidates to teach Lifeguard Training and CPR/AED for the Professional  Rescuer courses. To officially enter the course, you must:

  • Be at least 17 years of age on or before the last scheduled day of the instructor course.
  • Possess a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid certificate or have successfully completed a Red Cross Lifeguarding (full or review course) or another acceptable lifeguarding course within the last four years.
  • Possess a fundamentals of Instructor Training Certificate issued within the last year or possesss a current National Health and Safety Services Instructor Authorization Certificate.
  • Successfully complete the precourse session.  This includes pass the the precourse written exam with a score of 80% or higher for each of the 3 sections and demonstrating competency in the precourse skills and scenarios evaluation.
